After the rig was built the seat proved very comfortable for those 4 hour stints in more realistic simulatorsThe good: *Cheap *recline *side wings *is not a massive seat, works quite well for thinner people with a small amount of play *Good for a 5'11" person, head is not over the top. *Includes slide rails *at 40lbs it's light for my purpose The "bad" (not really that bad) *Stiff, bottom is ok since it sags and forms well but back is stiff and could be softer *Squeaks after use. The flat springs for the bottom rub against the frame and will make noises. *Rails are not square despite being a box style. nothing a little metal bending cant handle. *Left/right rail jaw link is too long, had to modify wire to tighten up so sliders open at he same time. Summary: Coming from WRX seats that are very nice IMHO, these do very well... This seat works great for my purpose. I built a frame for it using a 1x12 board, and a couple 2x4's for cross-beams. This puts it at the perfect height for a wheel attached to a standard-height desk. The seat itself has pretty stiff foam on your back, but I really like that since I wanted as much back support as possible. The bottom sinks down just enough without feeling too soft or too stiff. It does, however squeak like an old spring mattress. It doesn't bother me since I'm not bouncing up and down, but in a real car it could be annoying. The way the backrest curves in at the top makes it a little uncomfortable to lean back and rest your head on it, but I don't do that anyway so it's not an issue for me. I wasn't too impressed with the upholstery. It's soft and all, but... Read more |
